Building on customer commitments and expanding its global network, GE Aviation launched the China Operations Center (CHOC) in Shanghai in August 2006. Just three years later, the CHOC now covers the entire GE/CFM International engine fleet flying in China, Hong Kong, Macau, Mongolia and Taiwan with 24-hour, 7-days-a-week customer and product support services.
The center's team of highly trained, industry-experienced field service engineers specializes in technical line and shop maintenance support. In addition, the CHOC provides expanded services such as in-country technical and spare part AOG (aircraft on ground) support, lease engine dispatch and fleet data management as well as enhanced assistance for specialized fleets and business jet operators.
OnPoint Engine Diagnostics Coverage
The center also integrates OnPoint* engine diagnostic services with the product support elements to develop proactive solutions to potential fleet issues before they become a problem. Each day, the team reviews approximately 50 individualized, engine-specific diagnostics trend alerts. In the past three years, the CHOC team has grown from a diagnostics fleet footprint of 400 engines to more than 2,400 today, with plans in place to grow to more than 3,300 engines by year end.
"The center has played an integral role in developing industry partnerships across China, conducting on-site customer seminars, providing Rapid Response Center training to the Commercial Aircraft Corporation of China, Ltd., as well as hosting fleet manager customer visits and Civil Aviation Administration of China meetings," says Jonathan Swetnam, GE's regional director, China–Global Commercial Field Service. "Another notable accomplishment by the center's team members—their seamless support of more than 60,000 customer aircraft departures during the Beijing 2008 Olympic Games."
The CHOC works in concert with GE's regional support network. Coupled with a spare parts service center in Beijing, the Aero Engine Maintenance Training Center in Guanghan City and the on-wing support operations in Xiamen, GE is providing a comprehensive package that is helping customers continue to succeed in an increasingly competitive and dynamic industry.
