Marine Gears Overview
State of the art GE marine gear technology is the result of taking on and meeting some of the most demanding challenges posed by the United States Navy:
- GE gears sustain the massive power loads required by the CVN Aircraft Carriers "cities-at-sea" with uncompromising reliability.
- GE developed quiet, high power density (HPD) gearing for the DDG-51 Arleigh Burke-class destroyers, which requires half the weight and space of its predecessors.
- GE proprietary materials, computer aided designs and advanced manufacturing have contributed to the low noise signature of gearing used on submarines (Los Angeles class & Trident/Ohio-class) and destroyers (DDG-51 Arleigh Burke-class).
GE has also played a major role in commercial shipping, providing gearing for over 600 ships. GE gears are in super tankers, cargo ships, LNG carriers, container ships and other commercial vessels.
