Engine Overview
The LM6000 is a simple-cycle, high-performance marine gas turbine that is derived from GE's CF6-80C2 high bypass turbofan aircraft engine. Taking advantage of CF6-80C2 low-pressure system's normal operating speed of 3,600 rpm, the LM6000 couples loads directly to the low-pressure turbine shaft. Thus, no aerodynamically coupled separate power turbine is needed. The low-pressure compressor features independently controlled variable inlet guide vanes and variable stator vanes to modulate airflow, ensuring fast, easy startup/shutdown even under partial loads. The high pressure is mated to an efficient annular combustor for maximum fuel economy. Incorporation of advanced airflow and cooling technologies helps the LM6000 have unprecedented parts life, and provide reliable and efficient powe , low fuel consumption, and low Nox, CO and unburned hydrocarbon emissions, which is critical for marine applications.
Direct drive means more useful power. The LM6000's power comes directly from the low-pressure rotor shaft. There is no free-spinning power turbine and in 60-cycle applications such as an electric drive ship, no gearbox is required. Loads are coupled Directly to the LM6000's cold or hot end allowing for greater flexibility in ship design and better use of valuable space.
Where high-power is required, the compact LM6000 with its high thermal performance, is an ideal gas turbine for consideration.
The simple modular design of the LM6000 incorporates many features to maximize shipboard maintainability and parts replacement downtime, such as a split compressor casing, in-place blade and vane replacement, in-place hot section maintenance and accessible external fuel nozzles.
