CFM International Highlights From Asian Aerospace 2002

CFM56-5B TO BE FIRST ENGINE IN SERVICE ON AIRBUS A318

Airbus Industrie has confirmed that the CFM56-5B will be the first engine in service on the new A318. The engine is on schedule for certification in the second quarter of 2002 and will begin flight tests on the A318 later this year. The first CFM56-5-powered A318 will be delivered to Air France in the third quarter of 2003.

CFM56-3 CORE UPGRADE COMPLETES FLIGHT TESTS

The CFM56-3 core upgrade being developed by CFM International has completed a 50-hour flight test program, in addition to more than 400 hours of ground tests, and is on schedule for certification and initial delivery by mid-year.

CFM BEGINS CFM56-5C/P GROUND TESTING

CFM International has initiated ground testing of the advanced CFM56-5C/P engine, paving the way for engine certification in late 2002 and entry into service on the Airbus A340-300 Enhanced as early as 2003.
