Tom Cooper is vice president, Washington operations, General Electric Company located in Washington, D.C.

From 1970-1971 he was assistant professor of mechanical engineering at UC Berkeley and from 1971 - 1976 he was associate professor at the Naval Postgraduate School, Monterey, California.

Chosen to be a Congressional Science Fellow in 1976, he worked with the House Armed Services Committee, becoming a permanent member of the Committee Staff in 1977. In 1982, he became the assistant secretary of the Air Force for Research, Development and Logistics. He joined GE in his present position in 1987.

Cooper earned a Bachelor of Science degree, Master of Science degree and Doctorate of Philosophy in Mechanical Engineering from the University of California, Berkeley.
